What It Is
The IC Labs Rapid COVID-19 Antibody Test is a rapid lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay that uses a blood sample taken from a finger prick to detect IgG and IgM antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
If this rapid diagnostic test is positive, it means that it has detected the presence of antibodies and indicates recent or prior infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It detects both IgG and IgM from SARS-CoV-2. IgG is produced in later stages of the infection and can indicate recent or prior infection. IgM is an acute phase marker and is the first antibody produced by the immune system in response to a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
It is not known how long coronavirus antibodies will remain present after infection or whether having antibodies will prevent you from becoming infected again, help reduce the severity of the infection, or help reduce the duration of infection.
A positive test is considered very accurate, but it’s possible to have been infected with the coronavirus and still test negative. Testing less than one to three weeks after you have experienced coronavirus symptoms is likely to produce a negative result as it takes some time for your body to produce antibodies. No Covid-19 antibody test is 100% accurate, so it’s important to follow Covid-19 guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This test is suitable for humans of any age, including infants.
We utilize the Premier Biotech RightSign COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test or the Assure Fastep COVID-19 IgG and IgM Rapid Test. These test uses rapid lateral flow chromatographic technology and have been authorized by the FDA under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for use by authorized laboratories.
